Moving your body does not have to feel like exercise !It can be anything you want it to be.
You may be surprised that it does not have to be a Gym Membership to lose weight and to stay healthy.
In fact many people live a long life in health and good spirits just doing the things they love to do by moving their body every day and they even have fun doing it.
Introduction of the Photo for Weight Loss ,Diet, Good Health and Skin Care:
In the photo are just of the few ways that I enjoy moving my body , and for others it could be entirely something else. The only thing that really matters is that you make moving your body a life time commitment to your life style, and you enjoy it and even include friends and family to join in whenever possible. Some people like to exercise and weight train inside a gym and that is good also , and others prefer to exercise out side in fresh air or do both.
Health Benefits of pure Aloe Vera:
I do both ,but mostly out side to connect with Nature , to oxygenate my lungs, and to get the vitamin sunshine D into my body through my skin. I know a lot of people out there may be thinking well, what about Skin Cancer with all that sun ? Well, the TRUTH is people that eat right with natural high antioxidant raw plant based fresh foods of Fruits ,Vegetables , Sprouts, Herbs, and are hydrated with enough pure clean water every day ,will have protection from with in.
My own skin after living more than 15 years in hot tropical Phuket Thailand near the equator does not burn so easily and I really can say never ,even though I do spend long hours in the sun at times.I can remember often that my skin would burn and peal when I was much younger living further north in Canada on a typical SAD diet (Standard American Diet) including cooked meats ,dairy, processed foods ,restaurant ,confectionaries and fast food convenient outlets .
Even my younger brother named Dan who is on a high RAW plant based high antioxidant diet himself for over 2 decades now notices the protective change of his skin, never experiencing sun burn and skin pealing ,when he has visited Phuket 6 months of the year for the last 6 years. Is this just a coincidence ? Or is there more to this story? Studies show that almost all skin creams actually reduce or block out the absorption of essential vitamin D which is actually a hormone, and is stored in the liver to help regulate our hormones and research out of Canada is suggesting the Vitamin D has protective factors against all kinds of Cancers.The further north or south you live from the Earths Equator the more sunshine exposure you need for your Vitamin D.
For example if I know that I will be on my mountain bike for several hours on a warm sunny day,I will cover my exposed body parts , with pure Aloe Vera Gel that I grow in my garden.Aloe is easy to grow ,as one plant will replicate itself over time with new stalks and they love the sun and do not need much water. Aloe is proven to be a potent medicinal plant ,and even the Thai Spas ,Massage Parlors and Skin Clinics on Phuket Island use fresh Aloe Vera gel to treat tourists and locals with sunburn damage on their skin.
To my thinking ,that is putting the cart before the horse, and is being used as a costly treatment ,and not used as prevention. It is not uncommon ,that I will take Aloe Vera internally , by adding some of the clear gel, to my smoothies,and even to some of my home made medicinal herbal dressings for salads and toppings. I am not kidding about this. In my Gourmet experience ,Aloe Vera Gel can be used in many different recipes that I never seen implemented in other spa type culinary eateries.
Of course with any medicinal herb or plant ,it is wise and necessary to rotate the plants in the diet and to take dietary days off before resumption. Our skin is permeable meaning that nutrients good and bad ,are readily absorbed through the membrane pores, and also our internal body toxins are excreted out through the process of sweating .We know today that aloe vera is used in many products such as moisturizers, shampoo ,conditioners ,human and even our pet products. The Skin our largest body organ ,next to our Liver is one of the most in my opinion , neglected and most misunderstood organ on our human body.
Include Aloe Vera in your life for better health and wellness.
Fare skinned people need less exposure to Vitamin D sunshine and darker skinned people need more of it. If I know that I will be outside in the sun for long extended periods of time I use common sense and prudence to protect my skin . Early morning and late afternoons are good times for moving your body,and I am covered with clothing when I stay out for longer extended times in the sun. Always hydrate your body with water and more water as you increase the time and endurance of your sports,garden and recreational activity.

I am walking my Dog named Lucky in Land & House Park green development area near my home. Often I take this opportunity to give commands to my dog ,with awards of praise and the odd treat. My dog walks by my side and is never allowed to pull on the leash in front of me.
Often my dog is my interval jogging partner as well .
The photo at the bottom right is me working in my garden lifting rocks to make a raised bed of soil. Moving soil and rocks around is a good work out in itself.
Often I take my mountain bike for a tour around the southern end of Phuket Island. I have more than 10 different and exciting scenic routes to choose from , with different challenges and things to see.
Garden Yoga , and stretching outside is great for your connection with Nature.
And finally I am having some fun rebounding on my mini trampoline.
Every day is different for me and I mix it up and feel good after moving my body.
Why Eat a Plant Based Diet for Longevity?

A plant based diet,as organic as much as possible is the diet of many people living more than 100 years of age today in certain places around the world .With documented cases of Longevity
These groups of people ,studied by the National Geographic Society ,backed by pure science has proven that people that live on a plant based diet , with a great percentage of Raw Greens included ,lived well and lived long. They some times ate a bit of fish, an egg , maybe a free range duck or hen running around , but mostly vegetables and fruits in that order.
They included in their diets sea vegetables (seaweeds) Legumes ,nuts and seeds, as well.
Some raw fermented probiotic foods as well and on occasion some natural alcohol beverage.
They have no need for Vitamin and Mineral supplements sold on the internet or in retail stores,and they have no need to join up with Gym Memberships either. They move their bodies out side in the fresh air,in the most natural way, by gardening, walking, riding a bike, swimming in the sea, chopping wood, using their own body weight for exercise and so forth. They are close to their community and family and have purpose in their life with their faith. It really cannot get any more simple than this. So what happened to our modern day society that has people over weight by 2 to 3 and in many cases one-third of the population is clinically obese? How can we move away from simple carbohydrates ,conventional dairy and much less meat consumption,and commercially processed foods of every kind? How can we move towards Whole Food Plant Based Dieting ?How can we start moving our bodies every day for the rest of our lives? How can we become more active socially in our community and to slow down and to find more purpose in our lives? If we can do all of the above ,then things will change around for us and we can become more happier and healthy.

Why we Must Move Our Body?
Scheduling time in your daily life to move your body is so important especially today in our modern world because ,we live in a society of convenience and everything is done for us.
Genetically, Historically,and Biologically,our body was not built to live this way . In fact the industrial revolution with all the good things that cam out of it , also made everything else easier for us and has replaced intensive physical labor with a more practical, and commercial means of doing business which is good for business but in some cases not good for our bodies.
When we stop moving our body for long periods of time like long continuous hours at a computer,or living the life of a couch potato absorbed with TV and comfort food things start to happen over time.
Things start to happen with long hours sitting on an overseas trip by Airplane, with long road trips by ,Bus,Train,Truck,Car ,or Van. A large internal section of your body inside,called the Lymphatic System starts to shut down. When this happens, it causes circulatory stress ,with symptoms of discomfort, and your whole immune system becomes compromised,plus your metabolism slows down and becomes sluggish and constipated.
Unlike your Heart that Beats continuously 24/7 ,your Lymph can only function properly when you move your body on a regular basis with as much time that you can schedule in to your busy life. Our Lymph nodes are like a mass of meridians spread through out our body and their function is to remove waste and dead over used cells out of our body to protect and help us to survive against the toxins that enter our body every day around the clock.
When we eat, a Nature made Breakfast like the one in one of my other photos, puts less toxins into our body to help our Liver and Lymph to function better with exercise or just by moving your body.
Think about what happens to people that are bed ridden in hospitals and nursing homes? Their Lymph System shuts down from lack of movement, and then one thing leads to another without any outside fresh air and Vitamin D sunshine topped with denatured cooked meals, lacking in life giving Enzymes can all add up and if continued can present problems later on.
Try to hold any kind of pose ,and see how long you can last,how long can you sustain that pose? We are designed to Move are body constantly. Even in our sleep our body randomly moves through out the night more or less.
Even writing this article on my iMac at any extended period of time will demand my attention to stop work and to get up and move around for a while until I am ready to work again.After this rest and light movement of my body I can continue with my work at the computer knowing that I have my lymph moving again. It is important to listen to your body signals and symptoms and to make corrections for your health.Eating right like the Breakfast with Barry Gourmet & Raw photo above without moving your body will only over time make your body less efficient in metabolism. Your nutrients from food with more calories coming in and less calories being burned off could promote weight gain.
Ways that Barry Gourmet & Raw Moves his body?
First and foremost the important thing is not to be concerned too much about what other people are doing , and how much money you intend to spend at a Gym or Sports Equipment.The important thing is to make a mindful commitment and actually implement your body movement plan that makes you the most happiest .
Yes, that is right, just do what you like to do and that can be anything. Examples could be Gardening,Dancing,Walking, Jogging, Stretching,Hiking in Nature,Playing on the Monkey Bars in the park,Riding a Bike, Swimming, walking your dog, using your car less,Yoga,using the stairs instead of the Elevator ,and any other way that you find enjoyable for moving your body?
For my self the following is the way I get the most enjoyable experience for moving my body.
Cardio Interval Training with my Mountain Bike and my land leg exercises. Our body was not designed to do a long extended time of isolated repetitive training. This is why many athletes work on all their body parts to create endurance and strength for the whole body and not just one part of their body. Like a good diet it is good to mix it up , variation , and restful sleep will build and support you for vibrant good health. For my Mountain bike I look for Flats, Hills,and Grades,about seven different long and short tours all together, that offer variable challenges with easy riding as well .And example of Interval Mountain Biking would be the more difficult climb challenging the hill,and at the top, I would be winding or cooling down, and as I am coasting down the other side of the hill my body is in a well deserved rest and the whole process would repeat over again.This is moving your body the Interval Way.A lot of calories can be burned this way,plus you have a chance to enjoy the ,scenic natural beauty ,and is a good all around fantastic Weight Loss and conditioning program.
My land leg Interval Exercises are simple. I just walk,then Jog,then make a short Sprint, then reverse to a Jog and then into a walk and then repeat the procedure all over again.If you are just getting started you can first leave out the sprint part and work up to it .Set your own pace. You should try it some time as it really is a potent card work out for you ,but pace your self and work up to it. This is an all around Cardio Interval Body work out for your Heart Health.A lot of calories are burned off this way and it is a Fantastic Weight Loss protocol.
Yoga: Originating from India this incredible art of Mind and Body Movement is very beneficial to you in so many ways. Any person young or old can practice this wonderful ancient Art of Breathing,Meditation,Body Stretching,Balance,Resistance,and Flexibility.
I personally practice Yoga often every day or every second day with one day of rest per week. I cannot say enough about what Yoga can do for your Peace of Mind and Centered Body.
Yoga classes can be very affordable with good value and instruction on the resort island of Phuket Thailand. For example the class that I attend is good for a whole month twice a day at 1and a half hours per class morning and evening. My 2 professional Yoga instructors have over 2 decades of experience teaching Yoga between them and the price will definitely surprise you.I found a QualityYoga Class that is less than 0 USD per month per person, no kidding . This Yoga Experience is a best kept secret in Phuket Islands Yoga Community.
Gardening: Yes I enjoy my tropical permaculture garden of exotic edibles and ornamentals.
I do not use a sprinkler system , I do everything the old fashioned way with pails of water and lifting rocks and boulders to make my raised garden beds. Turning the soil over , and even turning my compost tumbler bin for a few rotations every day will give me a little exercise as well. This to me is one of the best ways to connect with Nature. At least half of my Breakfast with Barry Gourmet & Raw came from my garden.Many gardeners find it very empowering to be able to add their own garden greens and vegetables ,fruits and herbs to their meals.
My Outings with Lucky: Every person and family that has a Dog must find the time to walk their furry friend every day morning or evening . It is so important to your pet big or small. Either wise the dog will crap all over your property because they just do not have the same options as you and I do. Our dog needs the exercise as much as we do so include your dog in you’re moving your body training program every day and this is also a great way to get your best friend to bond with you more than ever. And what does this have to do with my Barry Gourmet moves his body photo you might think? Well, it has a lot of relevancy because it is not unusual that I share a little bit of my breakfast with Lucky my Dog . Yes, my High Enzyme whole plant based diet is also good for your dog as well.Just mix in the Fruits and Vegetables with the help of a blender and stir in some human grade meat proteins but I will get into this more in a future article.
Snorkeling with Lucky: Phuket Island has world class beaches , of more than 22 of them all offering something different for the water sports enthusiast. Five of them are just minutes driving from my home and are excellent for coral reef snorkeling with my Dog named Lucky, a 6 year old half Cocker Spaniel and Thai Dog breed. The ocean is like a glass plate of aqua marine in color and with good viability for 6 months of the year September through February. You can order a colorful plate of mixed fruits similar to my recipe photo above at some of these beach restaurants.
This is really a fun and healthy way for me to move my body . Lucky wheres a life jacket that has a rope attached to it and I where my protective garden gloves dawned in snorkel gear.
I know that Lucky is a very strong sporting gun dog with lots of endurance,and he will chase after anything that moves.So I position my self near the rocky shore line where all the craps live. Then the action starts when my dog starts pulling me through the water ,chasing after all those thousands of never can catch me craps, and my body becomes a human projectile missile beneath the surface ,as I hold on to the leash swimming between and over the corals and swimthroughs.
Ocean water is good natural therapy for the body as the chemistry of sea water is very close in chemical composition to human blood.
Working out with Lucky?Often on a nice sunny day I will walk Lucky to the park where the Monkey Bars are located.
I tether Lucky to a near by tree so that he cannot slobber all over me as I do my reps of resistance moves ,like push ups, chin ups, squats, and stretching in nature.
Exercising your Cells and your Lymph: Any person can do this, and it is very enjoyable and relaxing, not to mention lots of fun as well. Dry brushing your skin before a shower every day has many benefits for your skin, your immune system and your lymphatic system… A dry brush is made of natural fibers that can be bought in Health and Spa outlets. You can use a DHC Facial Brush and a regular body brush with a long wooden handle so that you can reach around to your back side. Your skin being the largest detoxing organ on your body needs to have regular maintenance for breathing , and regeneration.Its best to be in your birthday suite in the privacy of your bathroom before starting .Start from the souls of your feet and with short massaging strokes working the brush up your body towards your heart. Your lymph drainage works towards this pathway and the brushing will help with the drainage. Work from your fingers ,hands and arms on both sides toward your heart. A lot of your dead dry skin will be brushed off to allow the newer skin cells to replace the old ones and to tone the body. Start from the top of your head and dry brush down across your face and over your neck that contains a lot of lymph nodes towards your heart again. It is simple to do with practice and it is invigorating. You can expect noticeable results with in 5 months or longer with regular dry brushing.
Traditional Thai Massage:Phuket Island has many popular Spas and Wellness Retreats offering affordable Thai Massage. I have a Lymph Cleansing Thai massage at the club house where I live in Land and House Park for one hour once or twice a week. It only costs 300 Thai Baht or .00 USD that includes a foot bath, nice relaxing music, an expert masseuse working on your feet and a Certified trained ND Holistic Doctor working on the body part that ails you the most using hands on acupressure techniques, Chinese Thai Herbs ,topped with herbal tea.
Dry Sauna Spa: When your body temperature is slowly raised and maintained for about 15 minutes at this temperature ,your elimination organs including your skin ,start expelling water and stored toxins out of your body through sweating. Your skin pores will be open at this time so when you leave the sauna go straight to your shower room to blast a stream of jet Cold Water to wash off your sweat and to close your skin pores.(Hydrotherapy first brings the red blood cells to the surface using heat then with the cold water the oxygenated red blood cells are returned to your organs as your skin pores are closed. Again our luxury club house Sauna is very affordable at only 100 Thai Baht or .25 USD and you can use the facility more than one time in the same day at this price.
Important Note about Sauna:You are Dehydrating your body in the Sauna so it is vitally important to bring a large class jar of liquid to replace the water you are losing.
I like to take in a large mason jar filled with my different home made teas or juices to replace the water and electrolytes that I am losing.
Rebounding: You can buy any small trampoline or Rebounder at any sports store on Phuket Island for about 0 USD. I like to place my rebounder in the garden with sunshine and fresh air and start slowly bouncing my body up and down , then work up to a stronger tempo. Every cell in your body is getting a good work out and you just feel good after a session.
Well, that rounds out my Moving your Body protocol, and I am sure you can be creative in moving your own body in fun and natural ways that I may not have thought of yet?
How to Get Started?
We know that for some people just starting out , from living a sedentary life style of not moving their body for a long extended periods of time like many years it can be difficult. And on top of that they may be overweight or even Obese that compounds the problem of even wanting to move their body. Many years ago I used to be one of those people. How did I break out of these two lifestyle obstacles? And what advice can I offer to you if you are in this same situation?
First I need to make clear that no two people will be starting out at the same level of fitness, and the integrity of each persons health will be different. Plus every person will have their own particular reason ,or cause and affect ,and maybe even a traumatic life experience for making a positive change that almost forces the person to make a final decision to move their body. For me many years ago, that decision was made out of fear of living in continued symptomatic pain related to my obesity and living a much shortened lifespan.
My obese younger sister for example was give an ultimatum from her Doctor. "From looking at your blood tests, and physical evaluation you cannot expect to live much longer " and she was already on many weight related pharmaceutical drugs already.
My sister experienced the same life and death situation that I had, but on a different level of course ,and for many people unfortunately it takes this kind of wake up call to finally break out of the complacency mode that they are in ,and to finally take action to move that body. And to make it your new life style change, to be part of your daily schedule for better good health for the rest of your life. I am happy to say that my sister is now moving her body for 5 months now and I need to say that as each month goes by it just gets easier for her to achieve success , and I will explain how this works.
Hopefully you did not let your body go like I did or my sister did,and if that is the case then that is great . For you it may be less medical and more personal ,but I have to say even for people overweight it can be very personal as well. Normally a leaner person will be burning more calories more efficiently with a stronger metabolism ,than a person over weight can do.So a structured transition from you’re existing diet over to a Whole Food Plant Based Diet that includes some Raw Foods will be essential to kick start your metabolism.Raw Green leafy vegetables of all kinds every day is included in my life. I eat every kind of edible vegetable and fruit at home mostly to have control over my nutrition and not give my power away, to some other person or company. After a while you may feel how self empowering it can really be for you. Further more I do eat ground,whole,and sprouted nuts and seeds of every kind. I include all kinds of locally grown fresh herbs and spices that are Natures Secrets to firing up your metabolism for effective weight loss. Avocado and small amounts of wild fish from the sea is included.
I eat every kind of bean legume and lentil , and mostly non gluten sprouted or steamed grains on occasion.
I include Sea Weeds,Mushrooms dry and fresh Cultured fermented vegetables, broth, and herbal teas.
All my cold pressed oils of coconut, and olive are not used for cooking, they are used last for nutritional support and flavoring.
I use pure water, or a vegetable stock for my recipes only.
I eat a lot of melons as a snack by them selves .
I eat small portions of dairy Kefir or Yogurt ,a free range duck or hen egg, a free range hen or duck meat on occasion only.
I only consider organic whole food vitamin and mineral supplements ,such as Chlorella ,Spirulina,Bee pollen,Wheat Grass.
I will drink and enjoy organic red wine with my meal on occasion.
I eat when I am hungry only, and not just for the sake of eating.
I due on occasion include real whole dark chocolate in my desert recipes that I am pleased to share with you.
Also I am a big fan of fresh Coconut used often in my recipes. I Juice make smoothies,make home made fruit ice creams ,and invent all kinds of ways to present rainbow meals of Earths color for my culinary pleasures and good taste.
Hydrate your body with high water content perishable whole foods of variety is your secret weapon to effective weight loss and continued good health.
Diet alone will not work, so fitting a fun way to move your body into your busy schedule will give you the one two punch that is needed to succeed in your plan to lose that weight and to stay healthy.
Back then I went it alone and I do not recommend it to any person unless your determination and will is really that strong?
I would first find a person in your family , or social group of friends that you know has lost weight through diet and exercise,or some person that is already fit and healthy. I would suggest to include this person into your life as someone that could mentor you and help you to stay the course. When you start to include health minded people around you , it starts to get much easier for you than going it alone.Always stay up beat and never let the set backs of temporary weight gain stop you from achieving your goals.

My Personal Experience with my diet:

Having a new lease on life with my slimVegan body,and feeling good ,with tons of energy I continued to abstain from eating any kind of animal even though many Korean people love their barbecued beef but in much smaller portions compared to Americans.
However near the end of the 4th year of my 100 percent strict Vegan Cleansing Diet I felt that my energy should be much stronger than it was, and as usual I listened to my body and paid close attention to it.
I was living and working in Soul Korea at the time during the early 90s and I was burning a lot of calories at the time enjoying my new life by vigorously ice skating every evening at Lotte World Ice rink and on week ends mountain climbing and hiking with my friend Mr Park.
I will never forget my Friend Mr. Park and his gracious family for introducing me to many fine Traditional Korean foods to enjoy.
Even though we are the same age and had almost the same diet I noticed that Mr. Parks Stamina and endurance,climbing mountains was better than mine and his dieting was just only a little bit different than mine when we would eat out together . Back then I was working as an Animator Supervisor in Cartoon film production for Television,and having been trained to observe people and their movements and habits I made mental notes of every thing Mr. Park was eating doing ,and saying. I did not have enough time and money to make a double blind test study on 2 or 3 large groups of people so I just studied Mr. Park instead.
We where eating a Korean style of Macrobiotic plant based raw foods and some cooked and some high enzyme raw fermented foods as well like Miso Soups, Kim chi, sour vegetables with herbal Green teas and some times a bit of Korean Rice Wine. Included with our meals was boiled brown rice with different legumes Tofu, sesame sauce and seed, asian pickles, with fruit plates as a snack. Some times I would share a Korean Vegetarian style fried pancake with Mr. Park.And sometimes Mr. Park would surprise me, and place an Acid forming Egg on his Bi Bem Bap!! Thats a popular Korean Style bowl of rice and vegetables. On occasion but not often enough I would sprout and grow wheat grass in my hotel room.
What I notice Mr. Park doing that was different from me was his love for Raw Honey , Bee Pollen and fresh Raw Korean Red and White Ginseng Root mixed together. Honey and Bee Pollen was animal so it was off my list.
And another thing that Mr. Park would do was sometimes on occasion he would add a bit of Fish to his vegetables or a bit of beef or pork. I would never touch the last 2 but I know especially pork is very popular in most Asian countries. Other than that we where on the same diet that lasted for at least 2 years before I finished my job with the Walt Disney Company and flew back to California USA for a check up with my Natural path Doctor ND and Nutritionalist.
When my lab blood work came back I was SHOCKED and surprised to discover the following results?
Even though I felt a 100 times better in the past after losing all my excess weight , I still did not feel at my optimum in energy levels.
My blood count looked good except for the following result:
I had Anemia with a low red cel blood count .
I was deficient in Vitamin B 12
And I was low in my Essential Omega 3 Fatty Acids
My Doctor gave me a Vitamin B -12 shot that I did not like because I have a thing about being poked with needles . My Doctor subscribed Sublingual B -12 liquid under my tongue and subscribed Iron supplements and told me to start eating fish for my essential Omega 3 fatty Acids.
I found out later that I was not alone , and that other people experienced the same thing.

Well after only 30 days of strict raw vegan dieting and remember mine was almost 4 years straight, her Doctor after looking at her blood lab results informed Jenna that her red blood cell count was lower and borderline Anemic.
She called David Wolf who is an Expert Nutritionalist and Food Researcher about her findings.
David , advised her to take more green vegetable juices ,especially Parsley,Dandelion,and Spinach. And to eat more dark red cherries , and more dark red berries of every kind that is rich in the mineral iron. David is right of course as all the above mentioned foods ,will supply the body with dietary organic Iron to correct the Anemia. At the time I did not have David with me to consult with, and so I had to figure things out a lot on my own over the years ,and research a lot about how to best keep my vitamin B -12 at normal range and my Omega 3 Fatty Acids optimized.
Even if a person eats enough foods rich in Iron like , Beef, Fish, Poultry,and for Vegetarians ,Beans,and all kinds of fruits including dry fruits, and green leafy vegetables like Spinach things can still go wrong if you sway away from NATURE and nibble on that man made processed glue thats advertised in print and media.
Seliac Disease or condition,plus Gluten Intolerance, or people that are allergic to Gluten grains , like Wheat ,Rye,and Barley will have a hard time absorbing the mineral Iron even if they think they are on a good diet. Grains normally along with a few root vegetables like potatoes are very starchy foods and offer less bio available nutrition to the body as compared to vegetables growing above the ground.( Go for a lot of Dark Greens rich in Iron)
Crones Disease or condition, which is a chronic inflammatory auto immune disorder that affects the small intestine and other parts of the intestinal tract can cause Iron deficiency leading to Anemia as well.
Even parasitic infections can cause iron deficient anemia as some invading parasites are capable of feeding off of your blood supply.
Parasites live in all meats of every kind so my recommendation is to cook the meats well, and to eat the wild game meats as condiments and not as the main course at any meal.
It takes a lot longer to properly chew any meat until it becomes liquid in your mouth , and on top of this it even gets more challenging for us to digest the meat proteins in comparison to plant based proteins. The meat takes longer than any other food group out there for time of digestion, and transit time through your body,and if this isn’t enough, all meats are very Acid Forming inside our body and if eaten in excess could cause an imbalance with our intestinal friendly flora bacteria living in our gut, that would compromise our immune system .And I could say a whole lot more why we should not eat so much meat ,and I have to save it for another article because ,there would not be enough space left on this page to do so. So trust me on this , a lot can go wrong with eating to much land meat in our diet, including sea food that is farm raised.
Wild fish in moderation agreed with me ,such as Salmon, Mackerel, Sardines and Herring.
I personally do not eat any Beef or Pork and very rarely any poultry with their eggs.( And if I did it would be open free range and organic , chickens or ducks running around some villagers back yard living a free life like nature intended . I purchase my wild sea food from my local Sea GypsyVillage.
People living in the 5 Blue Zones noted for longevity live on a Plant Based Whole Food Diet that includes a little bit of wild free range protein as a condiment only. With their primarily vegetarian plant based meals with much of their diet RAW they eat small meals spaced out.

The Family is priority and has great purpose in their lives.
Non Smokers, as Centenarians (People who live to be one hundred years or older)from the studies do not typically smoke.
A Plant Based Diet for life is primarily their choice for consumption of plants from nature.
Constant every day moderate physical activity with rest periods.
A strong sense of community and purpose ,with all people engaged in social activity.
Legumes or Beans are commonly consumed.
From my own experience and observations starting over 35 years ago when I first visited Thailand, I was overwhelmed with curiosity as to why all the Thais that I observed where thin ,lean and in good shape. And I can remember at that time that I was self conscious of my own body being very overweight from consuming the processed Standard American Diet (SAD). Back then not previously having the experience of traveling overseas ,it really hit me because I thought that it was a normal thing in society to have a certain population segment to be overweight or even obese as I was just a young man looking for adventure in a new country.
The Thai people back then primarily ate a traditional Thai diet of Rice, Noodles,lots of Vegetables, Fruits and seafood that would delighted any persons taste buds. But what really got my tasted buds jumping around like Mexican Jumping beans on a hot stove, where the hot Thai Chili Peppers that every Foreign Tourist will experience sooner or later as Thais will serve it HOT unless you order it otherwise. (Always keep a big glass of cold ice water near by)
I also noticed in my travels to up country in Thailand even today that life is really simple and the Thai people continue to eat the traditional fare of Greens with Rice and fresh fruits with the usual spicy hot dishes that they are famous for especially in the North East of the country.On my last visit to the up country in Thailand’s North East I witnessed interesting bits of edible protein ,very popular with the villagers,such as Beatles,Grasshoppers,Ants,Lizards and Frogs.
I gave a pass on the first four, but I did try the Frog Soup and it was tasty and not bad at all.Remember that these people are still eating from nature, with their Fruits and lots of Vegetable Greens and less processed food from out of a box. My Thai wife name Am continues to practice her traditional Thai North East diet today but does get distracted now and then, and falls prey to temptation from processed fast foods , only because we now live on a tourist island with lots of out side influences, but that is another story.
Today after my first trip 35 years ago to Thailand I definitely see and notice a negative change of health in some of the Thai People in general in comparison of 3 decades ago ,that also affects other developing countries that I have travelled to as well. In Bangkok and Phuket I see much more Obesity and over weight problems in general in comparison to the past, and when I talk with western trained Thai Md’s ,they all agree with me, for this point of view. At one time , I read a report a few years back that Thailand was the country along time ago with the lowest rates of Cancer for any country , anywhere in the world ! Now today this disease is going up along with Diabetes and other chronic ailments as well. Last reported the Thai government wanted to crack down on all processed foods that contain Hydrogenated Fats to protect their people from Diabetes ,that I learned from in a radio announcement.
What I have learned from all of this is very simple. You may be surprised but Yes I later updated and adopted a diet from the 5 Blue Zones and tailored them to suite my own life style,to learn from the information and to implement what works for me .I guarantee that in time you will see and feel a positive difference in your own life and well being as well, with time and effort on your part. I know this because I have been practicing a type of my own tailored Blue Zone life style, by shear fate ,and good fortune, and discovered on my own, that a Blue Zone diet and life style, really does work!
From 1979 through 1990 living in Los Angeles California ,a close friend of mine influenced my eating habits and life style to help me to make a profound positive change to my unhealthy living and obesity. My friend was a Seventh Day Adventist follower ,and I still remember the day that we spent together on her older brothers family farm that grew and sold the very popular Apple Pears to the Asian market place.

Island of Okinawa Japan Diet:
Their diet is heavy on grains of all kinds , with fish and vegetables,but light on land meat and dairy products. The Okinawans consume fermented foods such as Tofu,Miso Soup,and Seaweeds. They eat many different herbs and greens including Bitter Mellon.
Many small servings of Green and Yellow vegetables,including Sweet Potatoes,with a small amount of fish less than half a serving at one sitting per day maybe 2 or 3 times per week.
The Okinawans consume more than the general population of Japan in the way of Soy including fermented Soy such as Miso Soup, and other legumes plus sprouts green onions and Green Tea ,and Mugwort Tea beverages including a strong distilled Rice Wine called Awamori.

Island of Sardinia Italy Diet:
Sardinia is located in the Mediterranean off the coast of Italy and is reported to have the longest living Men in the world today. Sardinians enjoy high fiber whole grain sour breads that contain probiotic live bacteria that support their intestinal health. Their Cheeses are grass fed from sheep that would supply Omega 3 fatty acids, that would not be found from live stock that is grain or corn fed that we find in the USA and other countries around the world.
Sardinia is famous for their rich dark wines , organic and unique to their island ,referred to as the black wine boasting the highest anti oxidants of any known wine today.The fermentation process is longer than most other wines explaining the high anti oxidant protection. The important thing to remember is that they drink their wine with their meals and not separately.
The islanders enjoy seafood of squid,tuna,lobster,and sardines in moderation. They also enjoy lots of Leafy Greens ,Beans ,and an assortment of different vegetables, with tomatoes, and herbs such as Mint,Myrtle,Basil,Oregano,and of course the King of Herbs Garlic.

The Seventh Day Adventists of Loma Linda California enjoy exceptional health and longevity that is part of their living standards with their faith and strong community support. The people of Loma Linda are primarily Vegetarian and enjoy a Plant Based whole food diet rich in various Fruits and Vegetables. Their diet is rich in nuts and beans. And they may eat meat very little and sparingly. The interesting part is what they do not eat. They will not eat pork, shellfish,drink no alcohol, and smoke no tobacco. They avoid coffee ,tea, and all soft drink beverages containing caffeine. We can all learn something good from the healthy life style and diet of Loma Linda California.
Nicoya Peninsula Costa Rica:
It seems to me that the diet of Nicoya is more fatty than the other 4 Blue Zones but other than that , other factors could play in their good fortune of Longevity,such as being the closest of the Blue Zones ,to our earths equator and having fresh air and vitamin D tropical sunshine all year round. They enjoy Rice,Fried Plantain,Onions,and meat of chicken or beef.Also Eggs ,Beans, and Cabbage or Lettuce salad sprinkled with Lemon Juice or Salt.
Squash,Corn ,Rice ,Beans, and Leafy Greens are all very high in fiber and they eat lightly and enjoy their community and out door gardens and social community life.
Island of Ikaria Greece Diet:
A wonderful Mediterranean diet of Leafy Greens ,Grapes,Figs,Pumpkin and Squashes with herbs of Fennel,Oregano and St. Johns Wort to just name a few. Olive Oil is big on the island that is used on many of their meals that would include wild mushrooms,Bean Soups,Chestnuts ,Almonds, Apples, Pears,all eaten in season and locally produced from gardens on the island.

With food like this their top soil would have to be properly amended organically and their crops would be well diversified. A lot of them have their own garden plots and therefore they are connected with NATURE. Dark Leafy Greens and Fruits are eaten by all 5 Blue Zones locations.

Is the island of Phuket Thailand a Blue Zone ?
Phuket island is the largest island in the Kingdom of Thailand located in the south facing the Andaman Sea on the east side of the country. The weather is good all year round with scattered rains during the green season and bright Vitamin D sunshine through out the tourist high season. November to April for six months of the year is the time when the sea is calm and clear with good visibility for swimming and looking at coral marine life,but accommodation pricing is a bit higher at this time of year.But September 27 to the 5th of October offers a very special event on the island. The Phuket Vegetarian Festival is not to be missed. How did it all start? About 150 years ago ,a large community of Chinese Tin Mine workers ,became very ill from some kind of epidemic disease, and many died. Realizing that they forgot to practice their belief of paying homage to their Gods they decided to sent one of their own to China for help .An entourage of a High Chinese religious committee returned to Phuket island to bring back the missing Chinese culture of respect to their nine Empire Gods.They practiced vegetarianism with out any disease fatalities and soon adopted a yearly festival known today as the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.
So since then they have celebrated every year the Vegetarian Festival on Phuket island with the possessions starting at all the prominent Chinese Temples in Phuket Town.
The commitments of the Phuket people are as follows for this Festival.
1- Cleanliness of the body during the Vegetarian Festival.
2- Wear white during the Festival includes shirt and trousers.
3-Behave proper physically and mentally with out any conflicts.
4-Clean kitchen utensils not to used by others who do not participate in the Festival.
5- Avoid eating any meat of any kind.
6-Avoid having Sex.
7-Avoid any Alcohol
8-People in morning should not participate in the Festival, it is discouraged.
9-Pregnant women and menstruating women should not attend ceremonies.
Yes the Chinese Thais can be very superstitious in their beliefs,but this sense of community is what keeps their culture alive and well, and I have to admit that I do see a lot of very old people walking around at this time of year.
The nice thing is at any time of the year here on Phuket island it is not hard to find a VeganVegetarian Restaurant that even serves brown rice with lots of leafy greens and other treats. Some of their plant based dishes are world famous like the spicy Papaya Salad (Som Dum) Suki Yaki which is a sort of do it your self heated vegetables in water with your choice of fish and land meats with salads on the side.Then there is a dish called “Can-om Jeen” which is noodles with your choice of different curry sauces and served with a big plate of different vegetables for you to choose from.
Every where you can see in certain sections of the island loads of Plant Garden Nurseries that sell organically grown edibles and ornamentals. One time I saw an elderly Phuket Man siting at a park bench with his bicycle looking at the monkeys playing in a tropical marine mangrove.I stopped to greet him. You know the feeling when you see a person and it just seems right to be sociable ,even if that person is a perfect stranger. His name was Mr. Lee and he could not speak any English so I spoke to him in my best pigeon Thai language and it turned out that he was 72 years old and looking very fit and lean despite his weathered face. We both rode our mountain bikes to my place for Tea and Fruit, and then all around the southern end of the island. I was so impressed with Mr. Lees endurance climbing the hills and his easy and happy disposition with everything in his life.
When you look closer at the Thai Traditional Diet ingredients ,it is not hard to see why many of the Thai people can be so healthy and look so good in their advanced years if they stay on such a diet.
Where I live there are many Thai Temples in my area and in particular there is one temple that is very well known,respected and famous among the Thai People.This place is home to a senior Thai Buddhist Monk named Lung Pu Supha and his birthday is at 115 years old and he could very well be the oldest man living today in the world.He is so respected and revered by the Thai people for his long life and his good deeds and cultural wisdom for the people.
Even if Phuket Thailand is not a Blue Zone , or where you live is not listed as a Blue Zone the important thing is that we can make personal choices in our life to learn from elders that do live very long and healthy lives .We can learn from them.

What is a Plant Based Diet?
This question gets asked a lot ,and many people have different ideas of what a plant based diet is and so I intend to find out for myself what its really all about.
A good place to look for answers is wikipedia , so I went there to see what this online dictionary had to say , and the answers may surprise you?
According to Wikipedia a Plant Based Diet can mean different things to different people.
Here are the examples of a plant based diet.
Seven variations are mentioned ,but if you combine and mix them with your cultural cuisine then you could potentially have dozens of variables.
These are the seven listed:
HERBIVORE: can be any mammal or human that adapts to eating plants and not meat of any kind.
VEGANISM: Is the ultimate 100 percent plant based diet ,with absolutely no food from animal sources including the bee product honey. How ever probiotic bacterial cultures are generally accepted.
FRUITARIANISM: Is very similar to Veganism , where the meals consist of primarily fruit and their seeds.
RAW VEGANISM: Is a type of Veganism, but with food uncooked in their RAW state with life giving Enzymes , and water soluble vitamins like vitamin C in-tacked and ready for available digestion of the nutrients. Some of their raw food preparations may be dehydrated at very low temperatures that may take hours to prepare to preserve the enzymes of the food. Raw fermented foods are also used.
VEGETARIANISM: Is a plant based diet that may include eggs,milk and cheese.
One important note on Vegetarianism: Many commercially processed foods are labeled as vegetarian as the Processed Food Giants know that this is a huge and growing niche consumer market place for them.
MACROBIOTIC DIET: Macrobiotic cuisine originated in japan ,then expanded world wide .
This diet is plant based and uses all whole foods from nature including vegetables, fruits, legumes,seeds, fermented soy products,sea vegetables, mushrooms, bancha green tea, and other herbs with occasional sea food mostly fish.
SEMI-VEGETARIANISM: Is a plant based diet with occasional meat products from land and the sea.

If you could label your self what would you be?
For myself I would say that I am a combination of some of the above and I practice the following from the most practiced to the least practiced in this order.
Raw Veganism ,Veganism,Fruitarianism ,(Often I eat only fruit at a sitting)
Macrobiotic diet,( I live in South East Asia and use local organically grown and wild crafted produce in season as much as possible with a Thai flavor) I am also a Sproutarian. A process of adding air oxygen and pure water in darkness to germinate seeds , nuts, and grains. This process will Alkalize , and increase the bio available nutrients for my body, and gives me the opportunity to save the seeds for my garden.
I practice Vegetarianism the least . Wild same day seafood from my local Sea Gypsy village. I include on occasion , a free range organic duck or hen egg. Some times on occasion a free range duck or hen that is found in my village. Maybe on occasion some raw organic goat milk that I make cultured Kefir from.
Note that I boycott most all man made processed foods , I look for real food that only nature can provide.
I do not smoke , and I do not take any Pharmaceutical Drugs , including over the counter prescriptions.
I do on occasion drink Organic Red Wine with a meal that includes a small portion of cooked meat with lots of raw vegetables with steamed and cultured foods.
When you prepare your meals at home you are in control of your diet . When you eat out you are out of control of your diet.

The best choice to have , is to eat foods loaded with life sustaining enzymes like RAW LEAFY GREENS, FRUITS,VEGETABLES,SPROUTED GRAINS,NUTS,SEEDS,HERBS,and Sea vegetables, with the following foods for your Vegetarian Plant Based Diet Plan.

Farm raised fish , are penned in and their movement is controlled in close proximity to each other causing stress and disease. Black and White Sesame seeds are part of my main diet and are packed with nutrition. To make this powder I highly recommend purchasing a good quality glass blender that is equipped with a separate DRY MILL cup that fits on top of your blender unit.
Trust me once you have this , you can make all kinds of recipes with it , and up your nutritional intake as well, its a great investment in your good health. Its simple just spoon all your 8 ingredients into the Dry Mill Cup .
Fit the cup on top of the unit then place the lid securely on top to cover the formula and turn on the blender until you see a fine powder that would not take very long , less than half a minute or a few seconds at best. Now you have your home made protein powder for the Bill Clinton Smoothie that can also be used in so many other recipes as well.
Store all your home made protein powders in a glass jar and place it in the freezer section to preserve all the essential oils.
Method for making the Bill Clinton Smoothie:
In your glass blender pour in one cup of Organic Brown Rice or almond milk.

Your son has ADHD. You are cutting out sugar, additives, gluten. This does not make sense to me.
I could see a concerned mother cutting out refined sugars and additives.
If you cut out sugars, additives, and gluten there is precious nothing left to eat. Also, your son will die if he does not get sugars. Sugars (carbohydrates) are essential for meeting the body’s energy needs.

I have actually heard of the wheat free diet on ediets. If she is not Celiac and just has an allergy to gluten, the wheat free diet might work for her on ediets however she’d need be darn sure she’s accidentally getting gluten bc if she is allergic to wheat, rye, barley AND oats, that is gonna eliminate a lot of her food choices.
How do u know she’s not Celiac but gluten allergic? (an allergy to all three is actually more rare than Celiac).
FYI: There aer GF Oats online, oats in an of themselves do not actually have gluten in them but are cross contaminated with wheat during planting and harvest and processing so are avoided. GF oats can be found online.
